Douglas Urbanski the Hollywood guru was a guest host of the Rush Limbaugh show a while back. He recounted a story about a few terrorist events back in 1986, including the bombing of the Berlin disco in which several Americans died.
He was having dinner with UK Prime Minister Thatcher the evening President Ronald Reagan sent in American warplanes and cruise missiles to retaliate on Libya…
Back then – before cell phones, pre-911, before we spent $1 trillion on counter espionage and all the other high tech surveillance programs they use to sift through all our emails and blog postings and cell phone calls – back in that primitive era, the U.S. knew within hours that Libya was behind the disco bombings. Hours!
Fast forward 26 years (think science fiction, relative to the state of the art back then). Move the action to Benghazi, a city where Al Queda has a dozen training camps and the CIA has a major operations center to keep an eye on them. American drones are a constant presence over the city, 24/7.
You honestly believe the CIA or the Defense Department, the FBI, the White House or the Secretary of State – any of them! – when they say we had no idea what was happening on the ground in Benghazi? Not for weeks?
When we had a high tech surveillance drone with live video feed overhead constantly, starting one hour after the attack began? Not to mention live phone conversations with the staff the whole time, emails and shortwave – via landlines, cell towers – secure DoD satellites!
They had multiple feeds of live data real time from expert witnesses at ground zero. The U.S. consulate was under attack!
If you believe the administration’s narrative, then you have to concede that the $1 trillion the U.S. has spent on the war on terror and all that technology we’ve developed has been a total, complete bust.
If you do, then you have to acknowledge that our intelligence capabilities are worse than they were 25 years ago. Fat chance!
Obama was as far away from the situation room as you can get. Since then, he’s distanced himself as far away from the investigation as it’s possible to be. He’s inserted every high-ranking individual between himself and the facts as is humanly possible.
Leon Panetta and several others testified before Congress last week that Obama took one phone call right after the hostilities began. There were no further contacts between the Defense Secretary and Obama for the remainder of the 10-hour assault on our consulate in Benghazi.
Obama was sound asleep. Panetta and his staff didn’t sleep a wink that night. The Committee asked. That’s what they said.
Didn’t bother Obama one bit.
