Citing budget constraints imposed by the sequestration bill that hasn’t even happened yet, Obama has announced plans to release up to 30,000 illegal immigrants convicted of crimes and legally put into prison. He’s granting them full clemency because you can’t be charged for the same crime twice.
As President he can do that, but nobody’s done it in such numbers before and only on their last day in office.
A few months ago, the Department of Homeland Security announced they would no longer detain any illegal immigrants unless that were accused of a serious crime. I suppose this new ruling means that even those hardened, confirmed criminals will be set free via this new revolving door for illegals.
This is more than a scare tactic to accentuate the alleged severity of the sequestration cuts. Sure, it’s scary – especially for people who live in the red states where most of these illegals live. It’s also totally unrealistic. Even if Congress doesn’t resolve sequestration by midnight tonight, they will still keep working on it until they reach some kind of resolution.
The Obama administration claims they’re releasing these illegals for “good behavior.” If the whole purpose is to save money, why not release American citizens in federal prisons for “good behavior.” They deserve it a whole lot more than illegal immigrants; who were privileged to have a trial by jury at taxpayer’s expense in the first place.
Rush Limbaugh thinks this is an impeachable offense. Many others agree. It’s too bad that the U.S. Senate, the body that considers impeachment proceedings, is a Democrat stronghold. Obama can pretty much do whatever he wants to do.
“It’s a kind of madness I haven’t seen in a long time,” said Bob Woodward of Obama, implying his famous exposure of Richard Nixon and Watergate. Or maybe he’s referring to Nero, the heinous Roman emperor who played the fiddle while Rome burned.
Madness, indeed.
