I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh every day. This was right after Obama “the magic negro” got elected. Rush tapped into all your most Neanderthal fears, like a modern version of Hitler’s silver-tongued propaganda expert Josef Goebbels. Conservatives were in the opposition at the time, and the opposition has always been allowed a little extra leniency to make their point.
Once Trump was elected; however, Rush kept up his diatribes against femi-Nazis (feminists), people of non-standard sexual orientation, blacks, Hispanics, hispanics (illegals) – you name it. It’s never right to viciously belittle the minority when you’re in power, but Limbaugh did it with panache and great skill – relish!
It wasn’t surprising that the president gave his golf BFF and maga-millionaire buddy in south Florida (both of whose palatial estates are threatened by the very global warming they deny – escalate!) in the State of the Union spectacle. The usual venue for that award is a White House ceremony. And you don’t usually award the conduct of a supremacist, racist bigot demagogue. But, hey – that’s Trump.
The optics were very bad, however.
The Democrat women all wore white to honor the hundredth anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment in 1920, giving women the right to vote. It was a nice idea, and a chance to show a little party solidarity after the divisive impeachment. None of the Republican members of Congress wore white.
The First Lady wore all black.
And it was the First Lady who hung the Medal of Freedom around Limbaugh’s neck. That really rankles. But it symbolized the moment very well: in a word, contempt of Congress. This time it wasn’t in the legal sense, per the second article of impeachment, or in the psychological sense, as suggested in the previous section, but in the social sense. What kind of message did the First Lady’s action send (and she damn well knew the Democrat women would be wearing white because they announced it at a press conference earlier that day)?
The message was: women should never have been given the right to vote. Evangelicals must have loved this message – “walk behind your man wheresoever he dost lead you.” Rush fans as well – see how the First FemiNazi denigrates herself at my feet?
The most disturbing part about all of this that nobody in the media spoke about this black and white dichotomy. Nor did they mention how, during the televised SOTU address, the “government cameras” always gave you the long-view shot from the rear of the gallery toward the podium: always from along the Republican aisle, as the erupted in applause with Trump’s ever racist remark. Hurray.
Straight out of the Nazi rally operations manual from back in the good old days. The Democrats on the other side of the chamber, meanwhile, never clapped, never stood – several times booed. Who cares? They’re all deplorables.
