“Ramp commandos” were labor camp workers who were responsible for offloading newly-arriving internees – sorting property, confiscating valuables, shaving their heads, taking their clothes, and so forth.
Just like when you arrive at boot camp or, to a lesser extent, your first real job, your first day at boarding school or college.

“Ramp commandos brings to mind images of these gigantic sumo-wrestler-types who work for the Japanese subway systems. Their job is to cram as many people onto each subway train as humanly possible during rush hour.
They can’t run more trains? They can’t have more cars? Faster trains? Japanese employers have never heard of flex time, working at home, telecommuting, or walking/bicycling to an office located conveniently close to your residence.
