Kansas Sues Sperm Donor for Support of Lesbian Love Child

The state of Kansas has filed a child support suit against a Topika mechanic who was a sperm donor for a lesbian couple. The couple is now separated, and the child’s parent applied for welfare benefits. The state is now seeking child support from the father, who gave up all financial and legal rights and obligations to the parents.

The lesbian couple had seven children already. Kansas does not recognize same-sex couples and the parent who left the family is not obligated to pay child support. The child in question is a three year old girl.

The original story was filed by the Huffington Post on December 30. Most states have laws protecting sperm donors from financial obligations. Kansas says the insemination was not done under a physician’s care as required by their law, and so the father is not exempted.

Most of the mainstream media outlets are sympathetic toward the lesbians. Why should they be faulted for trying to save some money and advertise for a sperm donor in Craig’s List? Hey, they had seven children to support already, and doing the whole process legally is expensive. Who needs a doctor to supervise the insemination when a poor lady can just swallow her pride and have sex with the guy?

This whole situation, they say, is one more reason why gays need marital rights. They can’t be bothered to sign a prenuptial agreement to cover situations like this and make both parties liable for child support in the event of a split up. They need society to babysit their legal status.

They need society to babysit their kids, too.
