Canada exemplifies how easy it is for an entire nation to transition from far-left environmental activism to far-left capitalist hatemongering.
The metamorphosis began with the discovery of the vast Hibernia oil fields off the coast of Newfoundland in the 1960s. Royalties from that single oilfield have funded the entire socialist welfare state of Canada ever since.
Now that shale oil has become a technologically feasible source of hydrocarbons, Canada has gone from the greenest nation on Earth to the one with the largest per capita carbon footprint – because shale sands generate obscene amounts of pollution.
Where is all that shale oil going? To China, of course, via a pipeline across the U.S. heartland.

Pollution controls take profits from big businesses. So they’re global warming deniers. Big business depends on cheap Chinese labor to make money. So, what China talks, they walk.
Conservatives are historically pro-business. They hate anything that hurts the bottom line.
Big oil is actually the most civilized of the lot. They just find oil and take it out of the ground.

They have almost infinite resources plus the will and determination to use all this money – well, to destroy planet Earth.
