At the beginning of World War II, Germany advanced into Austria to obtain more “living space” to relieve overpopulation caused by boundary constraints imposed by the Versailles Treaty at the end of World War I. The Germans wanted – needed! – room to grow their own crops and to be self-sufficient.
The Germans may have pioneered the idea of lebensraum, but it’s not unique to them. It’s a characteristic of all races and peoples on many levels.

Lebensraum is as much a “personality trait of social groups as any individual human quality such as extra- or intro-version.
Projekt Amerika
The Nazi ideal for lebensraum was the United States. America had unlimited natural resources and unlimited room for expansion. These days, the country is divided evenly between red states and blue states.
- blue = crowded, densely populated
- red = sparsely populated, lots of open space
People living in these two regions exhibit different personality profiles, much like the bellicose Nazi Germany versus the rest of Europe back then.
New York City
The Big Apple is an aggressive, assertive, in-your-face place to live. Genteel red-state Southerners who visit there see New Yorkers as rude, crude and grossly insensitive.
Chicago is another “gangster” city, and Obama is the “Tuto Capo,” chief gangster. He’s using his Democrat coalition to assert control over the red states. This coalition includes:
- the crowded northeast
- the crowed west coast
- crowded major cities in the heartland
Much like pre-World War II Germany, the belligerent blue states are poised to assert control over the less-crowded, quieter, calmer, easy-going red states. (Similar analogies apply to the antebellum south in the years leading to the Civil War.)
The “Yankees” are anxious to impose their will on the red states on many issues that affect the blue states marginally or not at all.

Illegal immigration is a problem in the red border states, not in the industrial northeast.
Democrats say gun violence is caused by guns. Conservatives point to the extreme violence in media produced by Hollywood, in crowded Los Angeles, the quintessential overpopulated mega- metropolis.
Herein lies the cultural differences. Democrats see nothing wrong with extreme violence in movies, TV shows and video games. They live in big – ugly, impersonal cities where that kind of violence happens every day. It’s no big deal to them.
Yankees see to expand their lebensraum by taking guns away from Southerners so that the level of violence in cities like Chicago and New York City can become commonplace in big red state cities.
Conclusion
Lebensraum is a universal need for living space. Nations, regions, cities and even neighborhoods become violent and aggressive when they’re overcrowded and use increasingly violent means to influence those in nearby areas.
