This was the largest Nazi euthanasia facility, with an estimated 30,000 victims.
That’s the number of hispanics Obama released from federal prison the week before sequestration kicked in. He said it was the decent thing to do. “Have a heart, will you” was the cloying subtext.
There was some media outrage from the right initially, threats of a Congressional investigation. Eyewash. The conservatives dare not offend the crucial Hispanic vote, so they let it all pass under the rug.
These were all felons, mind you, duly convicted of major crimes by a jury of their peers. Releasing them is the equivalent of a full pardon because they cannot be tried for the same crime twice.
The Triple Standard
Can you imagine the outrage if Obama suddenly shut down a couple of federal prisons and just set everybody free?
Obama could have pardoned 30,000 blacks in prison and saved the same amount of money. Alas, but Obama doesn’t need the black vote because he has it anyway.
Where was the outrage from the black community? They have complained for decades about the disproportionately high population of blacks in prison. Black leaders regularly rail on about how they’re victimized as a group. Without the wherewithal to afford decent legal representation, they suffer the consequences.
(Not long after that, they got their legal representation, in the person of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who announced plans to revamp the sentencing rules so that minorities no longer have to serve the maximum sentence – but whites, of course, still do.)
Conservatives dare not raise a stink about any of this. Their constituency loves to build prisons – easy money for big architectural and engineering firms, major hitters in their donor base.
Conservatives love this whole “tough love” aura of putting people in prison and letting them rot there. If blacks and Hispanics are released, somebody has to make the bed count work – time to get tough on whites; and how!
