There is a lot of zellwolle in politics anymore – manufactured controversies to drum up free media exposure for politicians (and news bytes for the cable news networks).
The U.S. government has been running a $1 trillion deficit for five years now (ten times the previous administration’s). Obama threatens to veto a GOP bill that reduces the government’s expense by $20 billion. They haggle on this for months, threatening each other with a government shutdown.
Meanwhile, preparations that the government has to make for the contingency of a government shutdown cost $100 billion.
The U.S. government hasn’t even passed a budget since Obama was elected. Not one Obama budget has received a single vote from either party in either house of Congress – 535 to zero. We’ve been running on “continuing resolutions” since 2008 – zellewolle – the new norm in Washington.
Artificial crises to keep us from zeroing in on the real issues – the $1 trillion deficit, the $17 trillion national debt; borrowing 40% of what we spend in China.
Not even the Nazis were that duplicitous.
