These are the “silver bullet” wonder weapons developed by the Nazis toward the end of the war, the V-1 and V-2 rockets, the first jet fighter, etc.
These days, we’re going retro in armaments. Our new wonder weapons are drones – remote-controlled V-1 rockets. The military is now training more “drone pilots” than real pilots.
LOL. I used to think “sanitation engineer” was the ultimate oxymoron. The military actually awards combat ribbons to “drone pilots” now; even though they never leave their comfy little cubicles stateside.
Remote Controlled Death
You’ve got to love the whole drone concept. It’s positively; well, Nazi-esque. It not only allows us to kill the enemy a whole world away, but it also puts all the legal ramifications “in the cloud.” Out of sight, out of mind.
Politicians love drones. They’re the ultimate in plausible deniability. Generals love drones too because; well, generals are just wannabe politicians anymore.
Drones set a new legal standard in warfare, a bar infinitely lower than anything even the Nazis conceived of:
- We blow up a whole city block to get one presumed terrorist
- Collateral human and property damage is irrelevant
- Nobody ever releases the name of the “accused” who is always presumed dead
- If the local authorities raise a stink (or the family), we just pay them off out of some slush fund
This is so Gestapo. Locals point the finger at anybody they hate – a dissident, a Christian, a competitor, a jilted lover.
Then the U.S. scoops in the intel, files a drone strike request, and zip! Problem solved.
There is no paper trail, no inquest or tribunal of peers to sift through the evidence, no ramifications if you get the wrong guy – no nothing because it is all super, hyper-secret.
Even the Nazis kept records, very good ones at that.
