Yes, the Nazis fought the original version of “corporate socialism” back in the day. They were quite aggressive in trying to eliminate corporate fascism. We call it “corporate welfare” these days and accept it for business as usual.
The corporate-industrial-government complex is an integral part of our culture now. It takes a multitude of forms:
- Tax breaks to companies building in your city (paid out of your tax dollars)
- Loopholes in the federal and state tax codes (deductions to do the right thing or licenses to do the wrong thing)
- Waivers from “unprofitable” regulations that protect clean air, clean water, and unpolluted soil
Alas, the 20,000-page federal tax code is so complicated that only Ph.D. accountants understand it all. And they sure as hell aren’t going to rat out their employers and tell the general public how big corporations bleed us dry to pump up profits (and increase political contributions).
Anymore, Fortune 500 companies are collectively guilty of “corporate communism.”
