Obama is obsessed with his new gun control agenda. We have a crisis now! We can’t let this crisis go to waste – the longer we wait after the Newtown massacre, the less important it becomes to the American people.
Sloppy Joe Biden is pulling out all the stops to “present his recommendations to the president.”

Tell me how we became a committee of one. Where is Congress? I like Congress. They hold public hearings and grovel over the important details. They marshal public opinion into a consensus.
Obama focuses everything on him, squeezes everything into his keyhole of an agenda. How come nobody is talking about crime? CRIME BY BLACKS?
Black unemployment is 15%. Over 50% of black kids are out of work. What do they do? They commit crimes! If cops won’t, don’t and can’t protect us against crimes (petty crimes like robbery and breaking and entering are inconsequential to them), how come we can’t have our own deterrent in guns?
As far as that goes, who’s talking about a gun culture that produces the best soldiers in the world? Huh?
I digress. I’m meant to digress. We’re supposed to be all emotional about this gun control issue. It’s the flavor of the hour. It’s a pleasant diversion from reality, from sequestration.
Then Obama throws gasoline on the fire and nominates a Taliban supporter for Secretary of Defense and a videogame warrior for CIA director. The latter, Brennan, along with the president, is obsessed with using special forces and drones to fight every war for now and for evermore.
Hagel, Defense nominee, is thrilled, too. Hint, Obama – the zero-dark-thirty hero of the century?
Hey, China has a standing army of 5 million soldiers, 1.5 million of them special forces commandos. The U.S. has a standing army of 2 million, 20,000 of whom are special forces. India’s army is the same size and has the same number of special forces as China’s army.
Little old inconsequential North Korea has 1.1 million active duty soldiers, 189,000 special forces, and over 8 million reserves (who are in far better physical condition than our special forces). Little old Vietnam has an army almost as large, with 5 million reserve soldiers.
And Obama is assembling a national security team that wants to win all our conflicts with special forces? Hell, 9 out of 10 soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq were there in support roles and never even left their bases. Our active duty strength is next to nil compared to the competition.
Our “front line warriors” sit behind video terminals 5000 miles away controlling drones.
Drones that kill terrorists and their families and everybody within a city block of a “surgical strike.” Drones that target “terrorists” and kill them without compunction.
Who decides on these targets? Are they sentenced to death by a tribunal or by some nameless nose picker in the Pentagon anxious for the ten confirmed kills he needs for a pay raise and promotion?
Well, there we are again – Obama has challenged conservatives with two highly controversial, very creepy people who revel in sending shivers down your spine. Washington will be embroiled in a huge controversy over these two men for weeks.
For weeks – while the country hurdles toward another fiscal calamity, the expiration of our credit ceiling on February 15th.
A real president would put all other issues on the back burner and focus everybody’s attention on the national financial crisis. Gun controls is an extremely complex issue involving our entire culture. Cartwheeling our national defense into an entirely new posture is an even more complicated task.
Obama wants to distract everybody until at the very last moment he gets everything he wants: extreme gun control, a toy soldier military, and an unlimited debt ceiling.
He’s succeeding! There I was, planning to write a column about sequestration, and how it’s nothing but so much hot air about getting by without the automatic spending increases everybody in DC gets every year… And where do I end up?
Right where Obama wants me – venting about other lesser issues.
