The “operation against the sick,” according to modern liberal historians, was the systematic murder of the sick at concentration camps.
Historians love to apply modern standards of medicine and hygiene to conditions almost 100 years ago. They relish using this universal subtext, purposefully failing to provide proper context, to intellectualize as evil that which was as much life as anything.
The allies had bombed Germany back to the Stone Age. There was no food, no shelter, no medical supplies – for anybody. Soldiers got first dibs, then skilled workers, then camp workers.
Historians expect the Nazis to have taken medicine away from babies and pregnant mothers and to give it to terminally ill camp inmates who refused to work.
Historians expect a brave, highly skilled soldier or factory worker to have less of a priority for limited medicine to help them recover from illness so they can return to the front lines or the assembly lines – compared to unskilled, unmotivated, uncooperative work camp internees?
If the allies were so concerned with the fate of the camp workers, why didn’t they rush trainloads of humanitarian supplies to them? That would be the modern standard, and if historians are going to apply modern criteria to one thing, they must apply modern criteria to them all.
The sick were kept at an “Invaliden block” at each camp. Historians love to point to Auschwitz, which had no such facility. They conclude that was because all Auschwitz prisoners were summarily “murdered.”
Auschwitz had between 200 and perhaps over 1000 sub-camps that it supplied with workers on a regular basis. If you were fit to work, you were sent to one of those camps where your skills were needed. If you could not work, if you had no useful skills, if you would not even try to work, if you were already too ill to work – you stayed at Auschwitz.
All of Auschwitz was an “Invaliden block” because Auschwitz was actually well over 200 different camps, a massive operation requiring a massive “Invaliden block.”
Would you have the Nazis do what the Russians did with the 65 million they killed, and just let them freeze to death in the brutal winters there? Apparently, that’s the humane, legitimate thing to do, according to liberal historians.
