This was, according to liberal historians, the Nazi’s hair-brained notion that geography played an important role in politics and world history.
The Nazis themselves were proof positive. Their impetus for expanding Germany’s frontiers was to obtain more land so they could become self-sufficient – i.e., farmland and forestland and land with energy resources such as oil and coal.
In the modern day, we take geopolitics for granted. Nations with enormous reserves of oil can write their own ticket, build massive armies, develop nuclear arsenals, bully their neighbors into submission – then gallivant off on an extreme socialist agenda.
Russia, Canada, and China all relish the thought of global warming. A temperate climate means more land for crops, access to northern shipping lanes – who cares if the rest of the world burns up?
You put the oil and energy wealth of Russia, Canada, and the U.S. with the economic power of China and you have a behemoth hell-bent on world domination and the means to achieve it. Their first task is to disprove global warming.
