The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and “the system” is what convinces ordinary people to “do the right thing.” The powers-that-be use a repellant mix of politics, polling, advertising, and statistics to make that yellow brick road to hell entirely irresistible.
Logic Gone Amok
Das system gives a $20,000/year blue-chip health care plan to 30 million people (half of them illegal immigrants) because “it’s the right thing to do.” The devil is in the details.
- Young adults pay for all this
- It creates a $20,000 glass ceiling for the poor
- It creates a $20,000 black hole for the middle class
These are the intended consequences of Obamacare. God only knows what the unintended consequences will be (God and the Secretary of Health and Human Services).
The Wages of Ignorance
Obamacare works only if everybody participates. The problem is that 30-50 million of the “everybody” participating gets a Cadillac $20,000/year health care plan for free.
Seniors have Medicare already. Working class Americans have employer coverage, for the most part. All the rest qualify for free healthcare under Obamacare.
That leaves young adults to pay for all this. How come? Because…
- Their average health care costs are $700/year
- Their average premiums under Obamacare will be $7000/year
So, Obama was able to use the hallowed principle of “das system” to make his most ardent supporters foot the bill of his signature legacy.
It’s 1984 All Over Again
While poor people with free healthcare can have all the babies they want (close to 50% of all births in the U.S. are paid by Medicaid), young adults who have a decent job are forced to pay $20,000/year in insurance for their young families.
Where’s the incentive for poor people to work harder, work 2 jobs, go to night school, or learn new skills – if the next $20,000 they earn goes to health care costs because the government subsidizes less the more they make?
Why shouldn’t a middle-class family work fewer hours if their reduction in earnings is made up by the government subsidizing more of their health care costs?
Big Brother
The long-term affect, pure and simple, is to destroy the middle class. It’s happened in many other nations already:
- Columbia
- Venezuela
- Mexico
Most south and Latin American nations used to have a large and prosperous middle class.
In Venezuela, the late Hugo Chavez leveraged oil wealth to buy votes literally. He used his loyal electorate of low-information voters to obliterate the middle class. Obama’s hero and role model.
In Mexico, the cancerous malignancy of drug lords has destroyed the working class and the whole social infrastructure of the nation.
Columbia, Brazil, Peru – they’re all crumbling into chaos as a combination of drugs and oil money are used by their authorities to obliterate the middle class.
Conclusion
As Ronald Reagan once said, the scariest words you will ever hear spoken are, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you.”
