Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal is the Republican’s new war-on-the-middle-class poster child. He cut his teeth in them south Louisiana swamps, shutting down dozens of rural hospitals to bring Medicare and Medicaid into the black.
Now he’s bringing his devious schemes onto the national stage.
The Conservative blogosphere is orgasmic over Governor Jindal’s plans to gut the state’s personal and corporate income taxes. He wants to make the tax code “revenue neutral,” and raise the money by increasing the state sales taxes.
Stupid me, I thought liberals were the only ones who butchered words and enforced political correctness standards on their fawning ranks. Several other states plan similar tax changes.
Let’s see how this works, Bobby Que. You eliminate taxes on the top 65% of all wage earners in the state; nix the corporate taxes paid by the gazillion oil and gas companies – and replace all that by raising the state sales tax from 4% to, what 15%? (The aggregate state and municipal taxes in some cities is already 11%.)
A sales tax is the most regressive of all taxation methods. But, oh – Louisiana has more poor people than almost any other state (and richer corporations than any other). They have to pay their share.
Jindal had the unmitigated gall to stand up at a convention last week and declare, “Republicans have to stop being stupid.” They have to be honest with people, cut them a fair deal.
The sad part is that all the mainstream Republican media are lining up behind Jindal like Catahoula hog dogs behind a female bitch in heat. They smell a master craftsman, just like the Democrats with Obama’s cool hand luke rhetoric four years ago.
There’s only one thing for sure in America any more. The rich will pay lower taxes. The poor will get everything they want. The middle class will pay for it.
Every last penny of it .
