Partisans, resistance fighters – or “gangs” as the Germans called them.
History indicates that there were virtually no resistance fighters against the Nazis. Any civilian killed by the Germans was brutal, random murder – done to spread fear and terror in order to subdue the natives.
Jews did not ever resist being sent to the death camps. Pole and Ukrainians did not resist being forced into huge labor gangs. Russians did not resist the German occupation.
Historians romanticize the French résistance, however. No French civilians were killed by the Nazis, only brave résistance fighters.
Thus, Jews went happily to the trains where they were packed in like sardines, many dying in transit of suffocation and starvation.
The Poles and Ukrainians and Hungarians volunteered to work in the German construction gangs because they needed the cast, the food, and the work experience.
