The big tech extravaganza is going on in Las Vegas this week, where everybody rolls out their latest high tech gizmos.
Yawn. I need another coffee – make that a triple.

The best Gerri Willis at Fox Business News could come up with was a dishwasher-safe fork that vibrates when you eat too fast (presumably you slow down and your belly fills up before you cram down that extra portion of dessert). Priceless. Just $99.
There goes your grocery budget for three weeks – the government is funding a study to see if it’s the toothbrush or the price tag that makes you lose weight.
Rush Limbaugh, the inveterate Apple fan and Steve Jobs acolyte, poo-poo’d the whole exhibition. “Electronics are passe’. Everything new is software any more.”
The most exciting thing there was a speech by Bill Clinton (newly minted “Father of the Year” by the National Father’s Day Council), a slobbering diatribe against guns.
Rewind! Clinton? Father figure? Is this the drive-by media giving the nod to marital infidelity, sex in the workplace, abuse of authority to take sexual advantage of a subordinate, prelude to naming Monica Lewinsky “Intern of the Century.”
Hey, the doubling principle in the electronics industry has been over for 10 years already, speaking of svelte electronics. It’s been years since faster laptops were faster by virtue of a whole new chip architecture (and the $1 billion fab facilities to manufacture them).
Macs and Steve Jobs started the trend, which we now know as dual-core or quad-core machines – 2 or 4 of the same old chips on the same old motherboard.
It’s been 10 years since $1 billion fab facilities were the norm. They still charge the same for those old 686 and 786 chips, but they cost pennies instead of $25 to make.
Profits! Enough profit to make Bill Clinton come in his pants. HELLO! Where’s Monica Lewinsky and her dark blue dress when Bill needs to wipe the fresh silicon off his hands…
No wonder Big Electronics could afford Bill Clinton’s fee.
