You’ve got to like a man like Bolivian president Evo Morales. He stands up for the most important industry in Bolivia, illegal narcotics. He’s BFF with Hugo Chavez, and he has Obama-esque rhetorical skills that he uses regularly to lambaste the evil United States of America.
What an hombre, that.
At the present time, neither the U.S. nor Bolivia has an ambassador in place. All diplomatic ties have been severed by both parties because the U.S. continues to criticize Bolivia’s refusal to comply with international drug trafficking rules.
My guess is that Bolivia is much like Mexico, where 1/3 of the national GDP comes from drug sales to Americans, and 1/3 comes from money sent back to Bolivia by illegals working in America. Most of the other 1/3 comes from goods sold to the U.S.
It takes real cojones to bite the hand that feeds you. It takes bull cojones to put a face on this by booting McDonald’s out of Bolivia. That’s what Evo did.
I’m not a fan of McDonald’s, but they do offer the cheapest most nutritious food you can buy, here and everywhere. Their refreshments aren’t laced with cocaine, and they don’t sprinkle coca leaves on their fresh three cheese salad.
(Bolivia plans to market a new soft drink called Coca-Colla laced with real cocaine.)
I think the U.S. should send every Bolivian caught here illegally back home. Send their families back home, too. Ban all legal immigrations from the country, and levy a 50% tax on all money sent back to Bolivia by Bolivian nationals.
