The premise of capitalism is the “protestant ethic.” This is a religious idea that people are completely autonomous combined with the protestant notion that you don’t achieve salvation through spells cast by priests forgiving you of all your sins.
You’re autonomous! You don’t get a free ticket to heaven or achieve salvation by a general agreement with everybody else. You have to do it on your own.
Sure it’s scary. God won’t forgive you anything unless you prove you’re worth it. Thus, the protestant work ethic: study hard, learn a good vocation, devote your life to it and be successful. Slackers don’t get into protestant heaven.
A natural consequence of this protestant ethic is the accumulation of wealth. That’s what keeps imperfect human beings from slacking off despite their fear of damnation. (Happens every time.) Plus, you need some wealth to raise children in a wholesome environment (not depending on the government for anything), to send them to college or trade school, to learn a vocation and to practice it with skill and dignity.
This is the evil “accumulation of wealth” that liberals proclaim is the great evil of capitalism. Apparently Team Obama doesn’t read the Bible. Protestants hate the hyper wealthy as much as they do. Doh! Jesus and the money lenders on the steps of the Temple? Usury?
Obama’s brand of Marxism is called liberation theology. Its basic premise is that we are all responsible for everybody else. Obama himself has said just that on countless occasions and in a hundred different ways.
There is no autonomy in Obama’s spiritual universe. Individuals are responsible for the whole. If some of us go to hell we all go to hell. You obtain salvation only from the priests of Obama’s Great Society. Without their blessing you’re damned, no matter what.
The problems is that some exceptional people will work hard no matter what. Everybody else quickly figures out that they don’t have to work hard at all to get everything they need. Obama’s base is the latter.
Hey, it’s not my fault that 85% of black women have children out of wedlock. That’s Obama’s problem. He’s the MLK, the JFK, the Abraham Lincoln of his generation. It’s his problem there are more blacks in prison than in college, that only 50% of blacks graduate from high school in four years (with an 8th grade education), that black underemployment is almost 30%.
It’s not my problem that 20 million illegals came to America and are now hurting because of the bad economy, and 25 million U.S. citizens are out of work, and the illegals can’t find a job. They’re the ones who risked coming here.
They made 10 times the going wages in Mexico working here. They didn’t save a penny for the hard times. They didn’t accumulate any wealth. That’s not my problem! And I’m not going to feel guilty about it or even feel sorry for them.
The first colony in America was socialist. The pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock set up a socialist community. Rush Limbaugh talks about them every Thanksgiving. They failed miserably and would have died but for the kindness of the Indians.
If we continue on this road of fostering dependency among blacks and minorities we’ll suffer the same fate. The Indians won’t be there to help us next time.
(They’ll be exacerbating our situation by ripping us off in their casinos.)
