Dolch stos is a “stab in the back” and the myth thereof refers to the feeling after World War I that the German army had not been defeated by the allies, but by the Jews, socialists, and liberals back home who weakened the military’s resolve and support, forcing them to surrender.
This is a common gripe by militaries (Vietnam is a case in point – the liberal Democrats withdrew funding, thus forcing American troops to retreat in disgrace), but in this case, it was
particularly bitter because of the terms imposed on Germany by the Versailles Treaty, which banned the military and overall drove the whole nation back into an economic stone age.
There were 8 million disabled veterans around in Germany after World War I to perpetuate this myth.
Economic Wrath
It didn’t help Jews any, either, that while the rest of Germany was thrown into a deep depression, the Jews remained relatively prosperous because they had hedged their wealth and property outside of Germany.
Particularly irksome was that the Jews took care of their own; before their friends, neighbors and non-Jewish family. Thus while not all Jews were wealthy; relative to the abject poverty of Germans as a whole, Jews as a group were affluent to a man.
Then the Great Depression hit, right when things from the 1923-
24 depression had begun to improve. The price of a loaf of bread went up to 1 million marks. Most Germans lost everything just to stay alive and feed their families.
Again, Jews did far better than Germans as a whole. By the time the nation had recovered, Jewish wealth had skyrocketed.
This, of course, only made Germans hate Jews even more. Thus was perpetrated a particularly virulent strain of anti-Semitism.
Three Strikes and You’re Out
The Jews and their Marxist/Socialist/Liberal allies (from whom the Jews made no effort to distance or differentiate themselves) were blamed for:
- Losing World War I
- Accepting the harsh terms of the Versailles Treaty which, in turn, made things worse be…
- Bringing on a severe economic depression in 1923-24, which completed the total annihilation of Germany’s wealth and resources.
Then, to add injury to insult:
- The Jews didn’t even suffer the economic deprivation of other Germans, but actually
- Benefited financially and
- Had the unmitigated gall to INCREASE their wealth exponentially in the years after, as the nation recovered some economic stability.
Through all of this, the Jews remained aloof and happy in their extreme prosperity, bursting with pride in their isolated communities.
Then The Great Depression hit. Inflation went through the roof again and, again, most Germans were wiped out while; yet, the Jews actually ended up becoming even more wealthy than ever.
It was the formidable strength of the German people and their leaders, and the backbreaking work of all Germans that had pulled the country out of the dust – and the Jews refused to give anything back, not a plug nickel.
